Most of my "vacation" now over, I'm already preparing to return to Texas. Upon my return, things will have settled so the next spell shouldn't be as demanding (or as lucrative) as the last, where I worked 34 of 35 days, and 46% of all hours since I'd left, including 181 in a two-week period. As rigorous as that spell was, it allowed me to establish a rhythm, though that rhythm was little more than work-eat-sleep-repeat.

More free time in the next month should allow for some exploration, perhaps Austin will live up to it's high billing.

Unrelated, to state here what I've been saying since June, Obama will win, and big. I had been predicting 320+ electoral votes, I now expect him to finish above 340, and possibly as high as 390. My vote is in the mail, I expect this to be the first time I have voted for the Presidential victor.

  • Remember when you used to blog more often? That was fun.

  • Greetings Simon,

My name is Carrie Hiner, I used to work with Kassie at Henn Co but have since moved to Des Moines IA for grad school. My sister is an avid reader of Kassie's blog (yours too) and mentioned to me that you work for FEMA. I have an interview next week for a FEMA Project Specialist position located in Des Moines. Can you share more about your experience with FEMA? What you like, dislike, your fustration or inspiration... etc. Do you feel like you're making a contribution? Any information would be helpful. The job I'm considering is temp with an unknown timeline, no benefits. Luckily, I'm urrently employed and would have the option to buy COBRA medical insurance. If you feel like responding to my inquiry, please write me at carrie.hiner@gmail.com
