tennis anyone?

Filling the empty hours between work and sleep is a struggle in Waco. Sadly at the Hilton, tennis is not an option:

When the renovation is complete, I do hope they keep the feature in the right corner. The fifth set is a hell of a time for diarrhea.

where next

As often happens on deployments to vile locales, my mind begins to long for another trip abroad. So to my readers, I pose the following questions:
Where am I going?
Who's coming with me?

be afraid

At this moment, Richard B. Cheney is the President of the United States. Former President George W. Bush has removed his head from his ass long enough to stick something else up there, and while Bush is in surgery, he has transferred his powers to Cheney.

this sign baffles

El Chico is one of about 371 Mexican restaurants in Waco. After lunching there over the weekend, I noticed this sign on the fence in the parking lot:

I assume the class starts after happy hour.

more good notes

I continue developing my note-taking skills on the job. Be sure to recognize the one meeting-related piece of information (hint: it isn't about pirates).

Sicko in Waco

I suppose I should be encouraged that SiCKO was sold out in Waco. But instead I'm just disappointed that my plans for my day off have fallen apart.

the best of Waco

Walking in, I knew I was in for a treat. The walls were lined with famed awards for “Waco’s Best Italian Food” and “Waco’s Best Dessserts.” I took my seat at the bar and surveyed the choices before me. With a panoply of stuffed pastas, sauced meats and grilled seafood awaiting there were no bad options. Making my choice, I say back and took in the delicately crafted ambiance, both rustic and contemporary.

In short order my food arrived. I can without a doubt say that it was the best meal I’ve ever eaten at the Olive Garden.

Unimpressed

Not impressive: The hotel fire alarm going off at 3 a.m. last night.

Even less impressive: The Waco FD not arriving for 25 minutes.

Wedding photos up

Wow, three posts in one day. Of course this one is little more than a redirect to the new Six Pictures with wedding photos.

i love my job

It’s been so long since I’ve had more work than time. I missed it. These days, the early days on a disaster are those I love.

There are far too many things going on, and far too few people.

Since I arrived, 24 hours ago, I’ve written two releases that have already been distributed, written two that are in the can, started another, done reams of administrative paperwork, begun drafting a long-term news release plan and even blogged during lunch, all while maintaining my boyish good looks.

interoffice memorandum

Would the old people please stop touching the technology? It does not like you and you make it sad. Thank you.

foolish texas

8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., six days a week. Now that's the kind of work schedule I like.

I've not much explored Waco, my only impressions thus far are that it is hot and it is flat. Enjoying myself in bars may also prove difficult as most of the people here have voted for George W. Bush four times.

How's that old yarn go? Fool me once, shame on me, fool me four times and our country is fucked.

i'm getting bigger

Monday I learned I would not be needed in New Hampshire. Today I was assigned to Waco, TX, where I'll be tomorrow.

done

Scot Hall and Kelly Betteridge are now husband and wife. Photos and details later.

practice makes...

Friday afternoon the wedding party assembled at First Unitarian Church to take instructions and prepare for the wedding. Despite some traffic-delayed groomspeople and moments of utter confusion we are now prepared to wed Scot and Kelly.

Following the rehearsal we gathered in Washington Park for food, drinks and merriment. Even the bride and groom has a few moments to relax and enjoy.

hide your wallet

Among my favorite stops in Portland, Powell's Books spans a city block. Inside, the store is divided into rooms, roughly by content. It's a bookworm's paradise, well organized and uncluttered yet fill with books both mainstream and radical. Somehow I managed to escape without exchanging money for reading material, but with hours to kill before the wedding tomorrow, I'm not confident my abstinence will persist.

scot's wedding: night 1

After an uneventful yet entertaining baseball game, the party adjourned to the wedding hotel where Scot ensured his cousin was properly outfitted for the event.

out with the wet

Despite recent camera related mishaps, I remain committed to bringing you up to date coverage of Scot and Kelly's wedding. Without a camera, this coverage would be limited. As such, I was compelled to take advantage of Oregon's sales-taxlessness and buy a new camera, seen above. Stay tuned to chabel.net for wedding weekend updates.

not a surprise

To my disappointment, The Transformers is horrible. The plot is nonsensical and poorly described, making the film little more than a two hour chase scene with robots.

I'm sure its reviews will be filled with awful puns like: Transformers movie: Less than meets the eye.
